Be careful who you take advice from.Venture Capitalists care about the bottom line and making sure they get their money back when they buy into your business. It's not always smart to follow the dollar signs.
On another note it's extremely surprising how Facebook has continued to remain relevant despite the prevalence of more social media avenues (i.e. Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat). Although it didn't hurt that Facebook bought Instagram.
