BLOG: The Blame Game

By now everyone has heard the latest news the GOP health plan that was supposed to replace Obamacare fell through the cracks. While many can argue that the GOP's plan was terrible and would result in millions of Americans losing coverage, it goes far beyond that. It goes beyond being a win for the Democrats.

In the aftermath of the bill's defeat, President Donald Trump did not look good. He certainly did not handle himself in away a leader should carry himself when a bill he supports gets defeated. Instead of taking the moral, political, high-ground "we're going to look into this bill and see where we can strengthen its weaknesses but we will be back," President Trump went on the offensive.

He blamed the GOP's bill on the Democratic party and went further elaborating when Obamacare fails it will be all the Democrats fault.

Oh President Trump boy do you have a lot to learn about leadership. First, although Obamacare was created and passed by a Democrat, but it doesn't mean if it falters it will be the Democratic party's fault. If one were to place blame, it would be on who is currently in office. It is your job as the leader of this nation to make sure things don't fall through the cracks and in the occurrence somethings do fall, it is your job to accept responsibility. That's what a leader does.

A leader steps up, accepts responsibility and makes sure it doesn't happen again. One of the best examples is former President John F. Kennedy after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. At the time President Kennedy was barely in his fourth month as President with a very veteran staff that he was relying on. That was his downfall. He relied on his staff too much.

Just because Kennedy had experience in Robert McNamara as Secretary of Defense and Dean Rusk as his Secretary of State, it doesn't mean they are controlling what's going on. Kennedy still had to make the decision. This didn't happen with the Bay of Pigs. He relied on his staff telling him what to do instead of him making the decision.

But Kennedy learned from his failures in the Bay of Pigs. A little over a year later he had another chance when CIA learned the Soviet Union were building and storing missiles on the Communist island of Cuba - 90 miles from Key West. Kennedy didn't make the same mistake he didn't push the red-button, he called the Soviet Union's bluff and ended up coming out on top.

Going back to the failed GOP healthcare plan this is not the end. It is only the beginning and it's not about healthcare. It's about can President Trump look at this situation and be self-reflective? Ask himself the question "what did we do wrong and how can I correct it?" If he can truly do that and rectify his shortcomings then things will work out but if he can't then it will be tough for all parties involved. Only time will tell.
